Deputy PM hails Viet Nam-China relations

Ha Noi (VNA) - The cooperative ties between Viet Nam and China have developed comprehensively and the Vietnamese Government and people wish to do their utmost to boost such fine relations, said permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

At a meeting with a visiting delegation from Guangxi province's Zhuang Autonomous Region of China in Ha Noi on Apr. 13, Deputy PM Dung said that along with the fine political relations, bilateral economic ties have continuously developed with two-way trade value reaching 7 billion USD last year. "China is Viet Nam's biggest trade partner," he said, stressing that the development of the friendship and cooperation has brought economic benefit for both countries, especially localities along their common border.

The Vietnamese Government has signed a cooperation plan with Guangxi province in power plant, bridge construction and coal mining, Dung said. He spoke highly of the initiative to organise a China-ASEAN trade fair, saying it will be an opportunity for China and members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to boost investment and trade. "Viet Nam will actively take part in the fair," he affirmed.

The Deputy PM said that Viet Nam has encouraged border provinces, Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City to increase meetings with Guangxi province to promote investment, and trade and tourism cooperation.

Lu Bing, head of the Chinese delegation, said his delegation's visit is aimed at seeking opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation and speeding up the building of the two economic corridors and economic belt between the two countries.

He expressed his thanks to Viet Nam for its contributions to the success of the first China-ASEAN trade fair last year and promised to give priorities to Vietnamese businesses taking part in the upcoming fair.

While in Viet Nam from Apr. 10-14, the Chinese delegation had working sessions with the Ministries of Trade, Planning and Investment, Transport and Communications, and Industry, and the People's Committees of Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. It also took part in talks and seminars on economic and commercial cooperation between Viet Nam and Guangxi.

The delegation was received by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Cong Phung on Apr. 12./.
