Vice President wishes to increase ties with Bulgaria

(VNA) - Vice President Truong My Hoa has affirmed that Viet Nam always places importance to strengthening and boosting friendship and all-round cooperation with its traditional friends, including Bulgaria.

The Vietnamese government leader made the affirmation during her talks with Bulgarian Vice President Angel Marin in Sofia on October 10, the first day of her visit to the Eastern European country.

Hoa extended congratulations to her Bulgarian counterpart on Bulgaria's signing of the treaty on Europe Union integration, which will enable Bulgaria to become an EU official member by 2007.

She expressed thanks to the Bulgarian people for their valuable assistance to the Vietnamese people's struggle for national independence in the past and their national construction at present.

Vice President Angel Marin reiterated that Bulgaria wants to continue bolstering its traditional friendship and long-term and multi-dimensional cooperation with Viet Nam.

The Bulgarian leader expressed sympathy to the Vietnamese Government and people over the losses caused by the recent tropical storm Damrey.

The two sides informed each other about the situation in their respective country, exchanged views on issues relating to bilateral relations, especially measures to continue to promote and intensify the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. They were pleased to see positive development in the two countries' comprehensive cooperation. However, the economic and commercial relations between the two countries are still incommensurate with their fine political relations, they said.

They stressed that relevant agencies, organisations and businesses of the two countries should find measures to tap the two sides' potentials and strengths effectively in order to raise the two countries' relationship to a new height, with concentration putting on economic and commercial ties.

At a meeting with President Georghi Parvanov, Vice President Hoa thanked the Bulgarian President for his good sentiment toward the Vietnamese land and people, and thanked the Bulgarian State for its assistance to the Vietnamese community in the country. She said the Vietnamese community in Bulgaria is not only an important factor to strengthen the two countries' friendship and mutual understanding, but also contribute to promoting the two countries' economic and commercial relations.

On this occasion, Vice President Hoa conveyed President Tran Duc Luong's invitation to President Georghi Parvanov and his wife to visit Viet Nam. The Bulgarian leader accepted the invitation with pleasure.

In the evening, Vice President Angel Marin gave a banquet in honour of Vice President Hoa and her entourage. The two sides raised toasts to the fine development of the two countries' friendship./.
